Our Mission

The Mission of Zion Lutheran School

The philosophy of Christian education comes from the Bible.  "Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it."  Proverbs 22:6.  Providing the solid foundation for this Christian education is a three-fold responsibility--home, church, and school.

Zion Lutheran Congregation recognizes that the prime responsibility for training children rests with the parents.  Parents begin and nurture this training by regularly and faithfully attending worship and Sunday School, and participating in family devotions, Bible study, and prayer.

Zion Lutheran Church has developed an effective ministry to support and nurture spiritual growth.  Worship, the sacraments, and Bible study are a vital part of our program for the edification of the entire family.  Paul writes in Ephesians 4:16, "From Him, the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love."

To help parents provide a Christian education for their children, Zion Lutheran Church maintains a Christian Day School.  Our Christian education program includes religious lessons, devotions, and worship experiences.  It is the all-day Christian setting that gives the children the opportunity to practice their Christianity while developing thinking and academic skills, knowledge, and communication tools.

Zion Lutheran Church established this Christian Day School in 1898.  It did not begin, nor does it operate the school to be in competition with the public school; rather, we work closely with the public school and the community.  The school was established and continues because we are convinced that Christian training is best done in the home, church, and school.  At Zion Lutheran School, Christ is the center of all that we do.  We pray that God will continue to strengthen and preserve this Christ-centered approach to education.

Ways to Help

Zion Lutheran School flourishes with the support of the Congregation, parents, grandparents, alumni, and friends. By supporting Zion Lutheran School, you are contributing to the school's mission by helping us spread the Good News about Jesus.

You may help support our school in a variety of ways:

  • By contributing your time and talents
  • By attending school functions and special events
  • By spreading a good message about our school
  • Through prayer
  • Through gifts

Time and Talents

Zion Lutheran School would not be able to operate if it weren't for our many volunteers.  From serving in the lunch room, to helping hammer out the kitchen/lunch room project, to tutoring students in the afternoon, our volunteers lend their talents in a variety of ways.  Please contact us if you desire to support our mission in any way, via e-mail or by calling 620-332-3331.

School Functions and Special Events

You show your support for our school and our students by attending sporting events, science fairs, and talent shows. By attending these events, you are not only giving a special cheer for our students, but you are also showing the importance of Christian education to the community.

We also hold several fundraising events through the year. These events help to raise the money needed for our mission and also provide Christian fellowship and fun. Please bring your friends, neighbors, and coworkers to these events so they may experience this special fellowship and learn further of our mission.

Cash:  The most common way of giving monetary gifts to the school is through a cash gift.  You may send your gifts to the school address via check.

Bequests:  You may also make a bequest by naming Zion Lutheran School in your will.

Matching Gifts:  Some corporations will match gifts made by their employees or members to Zion Lutheran School.  Check with your employer to see if they have a program in place for gift matching.  Also, some fraternal insurance organizations, such as Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, will match policyholder gifts to the school according to their guidelines.  Check with your insurance organization or the school office for more information.

Memorials and Special Occasion Gifts:  You may consider making a gift to the school in honor of a relative or friend, or in honor of special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, or holidays.

Tuition Assistance Program:  Zion Lutheran School does not wish to deny a Christian education to those who desire it.  Many supporters of the School contribute to the Tuition Assistance Fund in order to help those parents who are committed to a Christian education for their children but are stretched by tuition requirements.  Should you wish to lend your support through tuition assistance, please contact the school office.
